Murray Bridge Fun Run - Raising money for JDRF
The inaugural OPAL supported Murray Bridge Fun Run will take place at Sturt Reserve in Murray Bridge. The run is a fundraising event in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) that will raise vital funds to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. A $10 entry donation to the JDRF is suggested.
The Murray Bridge Fun Run Ambassador is Murray Bridge's very own Gold Medal winning Paralympian, Katrina Webb. Katrina's own brother and sister whom reside in Murray Bridge are both inflicted with type 1 diabetes having to inject insulin multiple times a day just to stay alive.
There will be 3 distance options for participants. 10km run, 5km run/walk, 3km run/walk.
3km course: Starting next to the Bunyip at Sturt Reserve in Murray Bridge the 3km course will follow the Murray River the length of Sturt Reserve towards Jaensch Road. The track continues up to Charles Sturt Dr were participants will do a loop of the street and then continue back to the finish line.
5km and 10km courses: Starting next to the Bunyip at Sturt Reserve in Murray Bridge the 5km and 10km courses follow the Murray River the length of Sturt Reserve towards Jaensch Road. Participants are then directed onto a dirt track which will take them past the scenic wetlands and out to Long Island Reserve. Participants do a loop of this track finishing back at Sturt Reserve to continue on the 3km Sturt Reserve loop. One full lap of this course is 5 km and those whom are adventurous enough can take on the two lap challenge to complete 10km.
Please note: there are short sections of the event that are held on ungraded roads and trails that contain uneven surfaces so care will need to be considered.
